Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Fellowships for African students. The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) was established in 1988 as a public, not-for-profit organization devoted to advancing economic policy research and training in Africa. The Consortium’s mandate and strategic intent are based on the belief that sustained development in sub-Saharan Africa requires well-trained, locally-based professional economists. AERC promotes capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African countries through support in the areas of policy research and graduate training. Scholarships are currently available for applicants from Anglophone sub-Saharan African countries who have been admitted into any of the following AERC Collaborative Masters Programme (CMAP) in Economics universities for the 2024/2025 session:

  • Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia
  • University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  • University of Ghana, Legon
  • University of Mauritius
  • Makerere University
  • University of Botswana
  • University of Cape Coast, Ghana
  • University of Nairobi, Kenya
  • University of Namibia
  • University of Zimbabwe
  • University of Malawi

Application deadline

The deadline for the  2024/2025 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Fellowships program is May 15, 2024,

Eligibility Requirements for the 2024/2025 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Fellowships.

Also, interested applicants for the 2024/2025 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Fellowship program must meet the following requirements: 

  • Must have applied and been admitted to any one of the listed CMAP universities;
  • Must have attained at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in Economics or related field from an accredited university; and
  • Also, females and applicants from post-conflict and fragile states are highly encouraged to apply.

Additionally, below is the list of documents applicants are to submit: 

  • Application cover letter;
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Evidence of admission at any of the universities listed above; and
  • Certified copies of transcripts and certificates.

Application Procedure

The application procedure for the 2024/2025 African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Masters Fellowship program is online. Click on the official scholarship website to begin your application. Additionally, interested applicants must submit their applications for admission directly to the respective universities (application procedure can be obtained from the respective university’s website).  Upon receipt of an admission letter from a specific university, applicants shall upload the following documents to the AERC scholarship portal https://training.aercafrica.org/admissionnew
