Africa D4D Competition 2023: The African Union – European Union (AU-EU) Digital for Development (D4D) Hub is proud to host the first Africa D4D Blogging Competition.

When is the Application Deadline:

7th October 2022

Tell Me About Africa D4D Journalism Competition:

The competition is open to all African journalists who use online media to report on the impact of digital technologies on people’s lives across the African continent, and the policies needed to reap their benefits for sustainable and inclusive development. We are seeking high-quality and in-depth stories that contribute to raise awareness on the importance of building a digital economy and society that leaves no one behind.

“How can Africa and Europe work together to tackle disinformation and protect human rights in the digital age?”

The AU-EU D4D Hub is hosting a Town Hall debate at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), to be held in Addis Ababa from 28 November to 2 December 2022. The purpose of the panel is to exchange experiences, ideas, and good practices in Africa and in Europe on how to tackle online disinformation through human rights-based solutions.

The purpose of this blogging competition is to promote a broader debate on this issue and set the scene prior to the IGF Town Hall debate.

Why disinformation?

Disinformation is false or misleading content that is spread with an intention to deceive or secure economic or political gain, and which may cause public harm. The spread of disinformation can have a range of harmful consequences, such as threatening democracies, polarising debates, and putting the health, security, and environment of citizens at risk.
