Lady Judge Distance Learning Scholarship 2011 for South African Women – UK

The Lady Judge Distance learning scholarship is available for one South African woman towards the costs of studying Masters (MSc) degree on one of the Centre for Development, Environment and Policy (CeDEP) distance learning programmes at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Any Master degree course offered by the CeDEP distance learning programme is eligible for the scholarship. Candidates will be assessed on academic merit by an Advisory Panel. The assessment of applications will be based on the information in your application. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references and other relevant information.

Scholarship Worth
The value of the Scholarship is £5,000. The Scholarship will meet only 55% of the total course fees. The successful candidate will need to pay the MSc registration fee of £608, and (at current prices) £354 for each module taken. A total of 10 modules are required to complete the MSc qualification.
Candidates must demonstrate ability to meet the counterpart funds.

Eligible Programmes
Applicants are eligible to study any masters degree course offered by the CeDEP distance learning programme.

Candidate Criteria
To be eligible to apply, candidates must at the time of application be:

  • A Female student
  • A holder of a South African passport
  • Resident in South Africa
  • Able to meet the entry requirements for their chosen MSc programme.

A complete scholarship application pack will consist of:
1. The Scholarship application form duly filled in
2. A completed CeDEP application (form plus accompanying documents). A CeDEP application can be downloaded from: www.soas.ac.uk/cedep/applying
3. Two reference letters (please refer to the “Notes to the Referee & Referee’s Report” for further details).

Application Deadline
A complete application must be received no later than 30 November 2011.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
All applicants will be notified by e-mail regarding the outcome of their application.
