The Development Pathways Krystle Kabare Scholarship programme offers an annual academic Scholarship to a Kenyan graduate student with disabilities, at the University of Nairobi, in memory of the late Krystle Kabare.

About the Award:  Before her untimely passing, Krystle was working as a Social Policy Specialist at Development Pathways in Kenya. She was passionate about improving the lives of the most vulnerable members of society and had a strong interest in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.

As a celebration of Krystle’s life, Development Pathways is awarding a Scholarship to a prospective Master’s degree student, of up to KES 575,500 for a two-year course, within the fields of Public Health, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, Social Statistics or any other relevant field. The successful Scholarship recipient will also be granted the opportunity to intern at the Development Pathways Kenya office and to supplement their learning by contributing to social policy initiatives in Kenya during the duration of their programme.

Eligibility: To be considered for the Krystle Kabare Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen living with a disability
  • Have already attained an undergraduate Upper Second-Class Honours Degree or above
  • Be proficient in spoken and written English
  • Have an acceptance letter to a Master’s programme at The University of Nairobi for September 2021
  • Applying to study a course within the fields of Public Health, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, Social Statistics or any other relevant field
  • The Scholarship programme does not discriminate based on age, race, colour, sex or religion.
  • The Scholarship is not open to Development Pathways employees, consultants or family members

Value of Award: The Scholarship will cover:

  • Full coverage of course tuition fees, paid directly to the University
  •  Study-related charges (including medical, library, activity, caution fees, computer lab fees, student I.D.) up to a maximum of KES 32,750 per year 
  • Book allowance, up to a maximum of KES 20,000 per year 
  • Funds for the purchase of a computer up to a maximum of KES 60,000. 
  • Research and Examination allowance of up to a maximum of KES 60,000 
  • Certificate of good conduct of KES 1,000 per year
  • A monthly stipend of KES 10,000 for living expenses

  • An undergraduate certificate showing that the applicant has an Upper Second-Class degree or above.Proof of admission into a Master’s degree programme
  • Two letters of reference (at least one academic)
  • Proof of Kenyan citizenship
  • Certification from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD)
