Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship – Master's & PhD in Petroleum Engineering

The Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship is offered annually to student studying or planning to study petroleum engineering on the Master’s or PhD level. Henry DeWitt Smith’s example of inspired leadership, professional success, personal integrity, and boundless dedication was his heritage to the mining industry which he served all of his adult life. In his memory, the Henry DeWitt Smith Fellowship was created by his wife Ellen Burke Smith.

Application Requirements
* An applicant Must be a student studying or planning to study petroleum engineering on the Master’s or PhD level
* Must be a member of SPE
* Submit a completed application.
* Include two letters of recommendation; one must be from a faculty member of the university in which you are attending.
* Official transcript dated within 6 months
* Essay – One page; 12 point font, double spaced, and 1 inch margins. Essay is to describe:
a. The goals of Henry DeWitt Smith fellowship program – followed with the plans to achieve your goals.
b. Your need for the fellowship.
c. Any hardships you face that should be considered.

This fellowship may not be 100% of your annual income. You must have another source of income such as a job, family support, etc.
Anything else that is pertinent.

Scholarship Annual Deadline
Applications must be electronically submitted between 1 May and 1 June each year. Applications received on 2 June and after will not be considered.
*All documents must be submitted at once. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
