Japan-WCO International Masters Scholarships for Young Customs Officials in Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 10th August

The World Custom Organization offers the WCO Masters Scholarships in Japan for custom officials from Developing Countries to Study abroad at Graduate School of Business Aoyama Gakuin University.

UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers’ Fellowship Programme for Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 30th November

The Government of Japan offers 10 fellowships, to be awarded to deserving candidates from developing countries, special attention will be given to those who may wish pursue their research studies in Japan, to women, candidates from LDCs, Africa and SIDS countries who are eager to undertake research on one or more of the topics listed below.

Kochi University of Technology (KUT) Special Scholarship Program SSP for Doctoral International Students 

Application deadline: 14th September

The Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was established in 2003 in order to support the advanced research of the university by enlisting the help of highly capable students especially students from foreign countries. Every year in April and October, the university enrolls selected doctoral students for specific research projects.

United Nations – Nippon Foundation of Japan Fellowship Program for Developing Countries

Application deadline: 14th September

The United Nations in collaboration with the Nippon Foundation of Japan is offering fellowship opportunities in ocean affairs issues to government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing states.

Japan Africa Dream Scholarship Programme for African Students (Fully-funded)

Application Deadline: Varying

The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship Programme is open to applicants from AfDB member countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a graduate degree program in energy development and related discipline.

Government of Japan Internship Program for Developing Countries (Fully-funded + 4,000 yen per day)

Application Deadline: 30th June

Every year, the METI Government of Japan Internship Program seeks 120 young nationals from developing countries for 3 months internship in Japan.

Japanese Government Scholarships (Monbukagakusho) for Undergraduate, Masters & Research International Students 

Application Deadline: 15th June

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is offering scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate and Masters students under the Japanese Government Scholarships (MEXT) Programme.

Japanese Government (MEXT) College of Technology Scholarships for International Students

Application Deadline: Varying

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers College of Technology Scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese colleges of technology under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

JAUW International Fellowship Program for Women Leaders (Fully-funded to Japan)

Application Deadline: 31st March

The Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) International Fellowship Programme offers Fellowships to Women from any part of the world to carry out research or advance study in Japan.

Japan Foundation United Nations University (JFUNU) Scholarships for PhD Students from Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 27th April

Japan Foundation United Nations University JFUNU Scholarship for PhD students from developing countries in the field of Science in Sustainability, Development, and Peace at United Nations University ISP, Japan.

Joint Japan World Bank Group Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) for Students in Developing Countries 

Application Deadline: 12th April

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme – JJ/WBGSP calls for applications from developing country nationals and Japanese nationals for master degree programs starting this academic year.

Yokohama National University Masters in Infrastructure Management (IMP) Scholarships for Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 9th March

Yokohama National University, with a grant funded by the Government of Japan and administered by the World Bank under the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP), seeks prospective students for its inter-faculty Master’s Degree Program in Infrastructure Management (IMP).

University of Tsukuba Program in Economic Policy (PEP) Scholarships for Developing Countries 

Application Deadline: 28th February

Applications are open to apply for Program in Economic and Public Policy (PEPP) studies in the University of Tsukuba through the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) of the World Bank.

United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme for Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 28th January

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the Government of Japan in cooperation with the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) have established a United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies for nationals of developing countries or non-space-faring nations.

Takeda Young Entrepreneurship Award for Young Entrepreneurs (Funded to Japan)

Application Deadline: 30th June

The Award targets young entrepreneurs or entrepreneurial individuals who challenge technological or social needs in the real world.

Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) Award for Young Agricultural Researchers in Developing Countries

Application Deadline: 18th May

Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) is offering the Japan award  to increase motivation among young researchers contributing to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries in developing regions.

ILO/Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU) African Cooperative Leaders’ Study Tour (Funded)

Application Deadline: 5th August

The International Labour Organisation in association with the Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU) have opened applications for its African Cooperative Leaders’ Study Tour to explore possible areas of collaboration particularly in supporting African cooperative development.

Japan Student Services Organization (JSSO) Follow-up Research Fellowship for Students from Developing Countries 

Application Deadline: 30th November

International students who have returned to their countries after having studied in Japan and who are currently active in education, academic research or public administration, are invited to a Japanese university to conduct joint research with relevant academics.

Government of Japan Young Leaders Program in Governance (Fully-funded)

Application Deadline: Usually at the end of the year

These scholarships are available for international students to pursue master’s program in the field of Public Administration/Public Policy, Local Governance, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration and Law in Japan. 

200 ABE Initiative Masters Scholarship + Internship Program for African Students 

Application Period: 28th October

The “African Business Education Initiative for Youth (hereafter, referred to as the “ABE Initiative”), is a strategic five-year plan providing 1,000 youths in Africa with opportunities to study at Japanese universities as well as do internships at Japanese enterprises.
