Brief description: The Programme for African Leadership (PfAL) at the London School of Economics and Political Science is delighted to announce it scholarship funds for bright African students applying to the eligible Masters programmes for the upcoming 2016/17 academic year.

PfAL scholarships are for people who share the vision and values of the PfAL Foundation and as such display a commitment to ethical, authentic and effective leadership in Africa. Beyond the initial award of a prestigious 12-month Masters scholarship, PfAL alumni also benefit from membership of the PfAL network of emerging African leaders. All applicants should be prepared to sign up to the PfAL Leadership Code and commit to active participation in the Network.

Applications are invited from ambitious, hard-working and committed candidates from sub-Saharan Africa who aspire to take up leadership positions in their home countries following their degree. The following applicants are particularly encouraged to apply:
- Applicants who have not previously studied outside Africa
- Applicants from Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda.
- Applicants from Nigeria and Ghana, particularly those with interest in public sector careers
In order to be considered for one of these awards, you must have a bachelor’s degree and meet the minimum entry requirements for LSE’s graduate programmes. You can find details specific to your country/region here.
If you meet the entry requirements, please complete a PfAL Phase 1 application form. If your initial application is approved then you are eligible to apply for one of the selected MSc programmes (Phase 2) and complete a financial assessment form (Phase 3).

Value of Scholarship: A full scholarship will cover fees and living costs, but the value for each student will be assessed according to financial need. As well as studying for a prestigious London School of Economics MSc programme, all PfAL Scholarship recipients will benefit from an additional study seminar series plus automatic enrolment into the [email protected] leadership programme which takes place throughout the year.

Phase 2: MSc Application – 31st March 2016
Phase 3: Financial Application – 27th April 2016
How to Apply
Early application is essential as MSc programmes make offers on a rolling basis and may close to new applicants much earlier than the deadlines stated below.
Please note there are three steps in the application process, all of which must be completed in order to be considered for a PfAL scholarship
Phase 1: Pre-Application
This is the pre-application phase and the final deadline is 23:59 GMT on Friday March 4th 2016. Candidates will be informed of the Phase 1 outcome within 10 working days of submitting.
Phase 2: MSc Application
Deadline: 17.00 GMT, Thursday 31st March 2016
Application fee: GBP £50
Applications are made online using the School’s graduate application form.

Phase 3: Financial Application
Deadline: 17.00 GMT, Wednesday 27th April 2016
Once you have submitted your MSc application, it may take up to 10 working days for it to be processed and uploaded into the School’s systems. You will then be sent detailed instructions regarding the LSE Graduate Financial Support Application. The online application form will be available until 17.00 GMT on Wednesday 27th April 2016 only.
