The Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellows Programme 2027 is open for applications, with a deadline of Tuesday 4 August 2026. Hosted by ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, this fellowship supports post-doctoral researchers and mid-career policy makers working on policy-relevant research on big-power relations and their impact on Southeast Asia.

Successful fellows will be in residence at ISEAS for the full fellowship period. In addition, they are expected to contribute publications and present their research through an in-house seminar.

About this Program

This visiting fellows programme supports research on big-power relations and how they affect Southeast Asia. Therefore, it is designed for applicants whose work connects academic or policy research with current regional issues.

Fellows will spend their fellowship period at ISEAS in Singapore. During that time, they are expected to engage with the institute’s research environment and contribute to its intellectual community.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Post-doctoral researchers
  • Mid-career policy makers
  • Mid-career policy makers may not have a Ph.D., provided their CV/Resume shows appropriate professional experience and research interest

What Fellows Receive: Fixed monthly stipend (inclusive of a housing subsidy), round-trip economy airfare between home country and Singapore, access to office space, computer equipment and IT services, access to the ISEAS Library and other facilities, and an invitation to meet Professor Wang Gungwu where possible.

Program Components

  • Be in residence at ISEAS for the duration of the fellowship
  • Contribute to ISEAS Perspective and ISEAS Fulcrum publications
  • Speak at an in-house seminar on research findings
